Mr. Paul McGehee
June 3, 1994
Page Two
As for blocking the Becker's access road with your equipment, I
would suggest informing your employees that this is not a very
good idea. Mrs. Becker is correct (if, in fact equipment did
block the access road) it would have made it very difficult to
access the Becker residence had there been an emergency situation
occur at the home.
Finally, as stated by Janice Becker, Mr. Mayger may express his
own opinions but should not say I am "tired of their letters and
calls". It is my position, as well as the Division's, to
encourage citizens of the State of Colorado to submit complaints
to the Division when permitted operators are out of compliance
with their permits or the Mined Land Reclamation Act. This is
one way the Division can monitor mining operations in the State.
During my conversation with Dorothy Becker in May, I asked that
she submit all her complaints in writing to the Division so a
written record can be established.
Except for possible wind erosion of the topsoil stockpiles, the
Division does not have jurisdiction of the items the Beckers
complained about. Since a complaint has been received I am
scheduling an inspection of the Colona Pit on June 14, 1994.
If you have any questions give me a call.
Sincerely, ~/~
f,,-j~
es Dillie
Environmental Protection Specialist
JD/lal
Encl.
m:~~a~e.~ei~,
