02'/16/2005 06:35 9162787686 CSUS PHYSICS/ASTRON PAGE 02
1. This is not a busfrrose fndusMal area. Tt'ie area is a rural residential
community with beaufiful views and high quality homes. Approving
Benson Brothers rapt quarry in this area will have a catastrophic impact
on environmental issues for the surrounding properties for many years to
oome. There are over 100 residences within sore-m+le radius of the
quarry site. The quality of fife far these families wttl be significantly
degraded. Needless to say, w+e would not have purchased the property if
we had known that such an indusMai monster vrould be opening and
operating a rodt quarry.
2• Water The proposed rock quarry will use up bo 4000 gallons of water per
day, or 120,000 gallons per month, from the Iced Canyon Mine Spring or
D mo estr r h tasrt~rr{ailed ore Iling new water taps1 andmthe belts alby
County Planning Commission has questioned a subdivision development
that proposed walls for resitlenoes, ff water is such a scaroe resource in
Coalby Canyon, we believe it should be managed by the people wha own
most of the property and its usage should suit the demogrephics of area.
We tlo not believe it is ethical or right for Benson Brothers, who own only
30 atx+es of property, to use so much water to support their own business
venture and grow their revenue business stream at the expense and
detriment of all other residents in the area.
3. Hours Benson Brothers is proposing operation from 7 AM to 5:3q PM five
(5j days a week, year around with additional hours of operation to suit
their business needs. This is unaxeptable for a rurel residential area.
The air pollution, the water usage, the noise level, traffic and disruption of
the environment for up to 24 hours a day, for 15 to 30 years is intolerable.
V1re did not make a major home sits purchase to live close to a potentially
24-hour a day rock quarry operation,
4, Traffic and Safety Issues The rock quarry will generate extensive
additional heavy dump and semi-tractor truck traffic to support the
operation and transport rock from the quarry to offer businesses and
business sites. The design and engineering of the rural roads in the area
will not support caravans of dump and semi-tractor trucks parading on
rural roads.
More importantly, this type and level of traffic is trot seta for a growing
rural, residential fatuity environment where children and families walk and
ride horses. Not only are the dump truck and semi-tractor truck traffic
major issues, but the Iong-term raise, litter and rocks falling from these
tn,cks presents'a major concern for families and residents living and
driving in the area, Wad we seen dump trucks and semi trunks in the area
when we were looking at property we would not have wasted our time,
efforts or money in pursuing a future home sits.
