;,Y.
February 14, 2005
Delta County Planning Department
Delta County Courthouse
501 Palmer Street
Delta, CO 81416
RE: Proposed Benson Bros. Coalby Valley Rock Quarry
Dear Delta County Planning Department:
~rq 1 5 ZU05
~-~,.
._ .
This letter is in regard to the Benson Brothers Coalby Valley Rock Quarry application
that has been submitted for review, located in Coalby Canyon on Ward Creek Road.
I would like to request that this application be denied.
There aze many reasons why this quazry should not be located in our azea. I moved
to Cedazedge from Durango in the summer of 2003. I chose Coalby Canyon for many
reasons. It is a quiet, peaceful area. Loaded with deer, elk, wild turkeys, red fox to
name a few and it's out of town. In Durango where I Lived, my home was located
south of town, neaz a rock quarry. While some of the trucks obeyed the 40 mile per
hour speed limit, the majority did not, traveling about 10 miles an hour faster. The
ruts and pot holes were not kept up by the county as promised and were damaging to
our vehicles. Is Delta County going to keep the roads repaired?
Are the trucks going to and from the proposed quarry going to obey the speed limit?
45 miles per hour is too fast for Ward Creek Road as it is. All of us who enjoy
walking and horseback riding on the shoulder had better beware. Also, we need to
warn the wildlife as well.
I sure enjoy sitting on my porch in the peace and quiet. That will no longer be the
case if the quarry is approved. Listening to numerous trucks with the air brakes
going, the loud crushers and generators and heavy equipment going on 7 days a
week, 365 days a year is not why I purchased my home.
If you were in our "shoes", would you want a rock quarry in your neighborhood?
Again, I ask that you deny the application for the Benson Brothers rock quarry.
~~~~,'~
Jffl McCormick
19081 Wazd Creek Road, Cedaredge, CO 81413
