planning -Benson Bros. rock quarry app. SD05-001 Page_1;~
From: <jdalbowcQtds.net>
To: <Planning~deltacounty.com>
Date: 2H7/05 11:34PM
Subject: Benson Bros, rock quarry app. SD05-001
The idea of a rock quany in the middle of a neighborhood is ridiculous. There are over 100 homes in a
mile radius of the proposed site that will be negatively affected by an operation of this kind. Coalby
continues to grow, with new subdivision proposals before the county commissioners right now.
I lived here when the Red Canyon Mine was in operation 20 years ago, and have no desire to experience
all that noise and traffic again. It was a constant growl of motors and fans/generators, and huge trucks
flying by our house, tearing up the roads all day, nearly every day. It was bad enough then, and that
mining was all underground. Now with the amount of people living in the area, traffic will be a huge
concern.
I have two children who ride the school bus. They get on at 7:35 every morning, and return at 4:00 p.m.
What kind of guarantee for their safety, or the safety of the other school children on the route can be
offered when the hours of quarry operation overlap so Gosely with the bus schedule?
The valley acts as a sound amplifier. When I am outside I can often hear the Bensons quarrying
operations in Green Valley. I can not only hear the voices of my neighbors nearly a quarter of a mile
away, I can pick out their words. 1 can hear another neighbor(an excavator) working on his property on
the weekends with his backhce. He lives above me, past the proposed site. I don't want to spend the
next 15+ years listening to heavy equipment, generators, and rock crushers.
Dust will be another problem. This is a windy area, and they only plan on misting for the crusher. The
Green Valley quany is a horrible dust loud on any given day that it is running.
I've hiked all over "the Cliffs" since 1 was a small girl; with the quarry running, it wi(I be unsafe and maybe
impossible to hike thee. My neighbors who own part of the cliff certainty won't be able !o roam freely on
their own property. That isn't right A landmark will be ruined forever, and all bepuse of greed.
I moved back here from the city, because I realized what a beautiful place this area is, and I want my kids
to have the chance to enjoy the hiking and wildlife in a rural area. Not many have such a great hike onry
minutes away from their front door.
It is my dream to live here for the rest of my life, enjoying the country, and the peace and quiet associated
with it !t is many of my neighbors' dreams as well. We have all sacrificed in one way or another to make
our dreams
a reality, and it pisses me off that the Bensons feel they have the right to destroy the dreams of so many
people.
I've seen Coalby at iYs worst with the mine operating. It left an ugly scar in the hillside, and the reclaimed
area is a rolling hill with some grass on it. There are no rock outcroppings, no trees, no beauty. Why must
our landscape be destroyed in order to make landscape materials for others?
Please come visit the area and see for yourselves before you make arty decision no one pn live with.
If the Bensons really want to be our "neighbors" then they can purchase the land west of their property,
and build a house right next to their very own quany. If it is such a treat to live next to a quarry, I'm sure
they will jump at the chance, no? NO.
I urge you to DENY this permit! !t adversely affects too many people. Twenty years ago it was very
different, and I you understand why this is such a bad idea. Please do not let the residents of Coalby
down.
Julia Dalbow
18595 Ward Creek Rd.
Cedaredge, CO 81413
856-4725
