-2-
• were performed in addition to the sieve analyses on samples
No. 2 and 5.
The summary of laboratory testing is presented in Table
A-1. It shows that most soils are sandy or sandy-silty clays
with the exception of the terrace deposits that are classified
as sandy gravels.
GRADATION ANALYSES
Sieve and hydrometer analyses determined the amount and
size distribution of the soil particles. The tests assist in
accurate classification of the soils and enable a quantitative
comparison of soils of individual types. The test results
are shown in Tables A-2A through A-2C, Identification Test
Summary.
ATTERBERG LIMITS
The liquid and plastic limits of all samples were determined
to enable accurate classification of silty and clayey soils, and
to assist in the evaluation of their mechanical characteristics.
The results of these tests are presented in Tables A-2A through
A-2C, Identification Test Summary.
COMPACTION TESTS
Compaction tests (Standard Compaction Test, ASTM 698-78,
Method A) have been performed on all five samples. The purpose
• of these tests is to determine a moisture-density curve compar-
able to that of the same material when compacted in the field.
