-17-
• in previous cases, the upper parts of the cut are steeper than
the lower parts, Specifically the cut portion below the crest
of cut No. 2 is practically vertical.
The cut No. 5 has been excavated in the terrace deposits.
The cut is very high, reaching a maximum height of about 60
feet. The central part of the cut has been excavated at an
angle of about 67 degrees; the lower part is flatter (some 53
degrees), and the uppermost part of the cut is vertical or sub-
vertical. The cut does not carry any traces of significant
sloughing or instability; even the cut portion immediately
below the crest, which has been excavated practically vertically,
does not carry any traces of sloughing,
i
The_cut-P7o._6 is a long cut that is intersected by two
minor drainages. The cut, except for its last portion, is
excavated in terrace deposits. Its height varies and reaches
the maximum in the west cut portion. The maximum height is
about 45 feet. The cut has been again excavated at a fairly
steep angle of 55 to 60 degrees; the lowest part is slightly
flatter and the uppermost part is steeper. The last cut por-
tion located above the last curve has been excavated in collu-
vial soils. It can be clearly seen that this cut portion
experiences important sloughing as is indicated on the map.
Sloughing in this cut portion is a clear indication of the
lower quality of colluvial soils compared to the terrace deposits
• in the west cut portion.
