page 2
Seedbed preparation: This includes needed tillage operations and
fertilizer applications as needed. Soil samples
should be taken and the fertilizer recommendation
from the test followed. A firm, weedfree seedbed
needs to be made prior to seeding. This may require
any number of operations depending on soil conditions,
Moisture, and other climatic factors.
Seeding: The attached sheet will provide you with information
on species selection and seeding rates to be followed.
Various agencies may require different species depending
on desired end results.
Mulching: All seeded areas should be mulched to conserve moisture
and reduce soil temperatures, thus helping to insure
vegetation establishment. The mulch should be grass
hay or straw and should be free of weed seed. The
mulch should be applied at a rate of 4000 lbs. per
acre. The material should be"tacked" down by slight
disking, chemical means or otherwise kept from blowing
away.
Weed control: Competitive weeds should be controlled by mechanical
or chemical means to insure desired species
establishment on the site.
If you have not already contacted the various city, county, state and federal
agencies, you will need to do so. This includes but it not limited to:
Town of Parachute Planning Department, P.O. Box 100, Parachute, CO 81635
Garfield County Planning Department, 109 8th Street, Glenwood Springs, CO 81601
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Hoard
Army Corps of Engineers, Regulatory Unit #4, Sacramento District, 764 Horizon Drive
Room 211, Grand Junction, CO 81501-8719. This agency especially needs to be
contacted if wetlands are involved in the project.
There may be other agencies that will help you or provide information in preparing
needed permits.
Sincerely,
Dennis Davidson, District Conservationist
Glenwood Springs Field Office
i
CC:~ Army Corps of Engineers, Grand Junction
Town of Parachute
2 (b)
