FIELD REVIEW
There have been both office and field reviews of this proposed project for Threatened,
Endangered, Sensitive and Management Indicator Species that are known to, or may
potentially be found in the area affected by this project. Wildlife and habitat surveys were
conducted for the project during the late spring of 2005. In addition to studies for this
specific site, habitat and wildlife studies have been conducted throughout the general azea
since 2002. This background data has been used to better evaluate the importance of this
azea for wildlife when compared with other similar habitat in the North Fork Valley. The
tables included with this report list the Threatened, Endangered, & Sensitive Species
{TESS) and Management Indicator Species (MIS) that may potentially be found in the
area affected by this projector aze listed by the GMUG as occurring on forest lands.
BIOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT FOR THREATENED AND
ENDANGERED SPECIES
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS) lists two vertebrate species and one plant
species which occur, potentially occur, or habitat for which occurs on the Gunnison
National Forest as Threatened, Endangered, or Proposed under the Endangered Species
Act of 1973; Canada lynx (threatened), bald eagle (threatened), Colorado pikeminnow
(endangered), Humpback chub (endangered), Razorback sucker (endangered), Bonytail
(endangered) CIay loving wild buckwheat (Endangered) and Uinta Basin Hookless
Cactus (threatened). The yellow-billed cuckoo, Gunnison sage grouse and boreal toad
aze listed as candidate species. The purpose of this document is to analyze the effects of
the proposed project, described below, to determine if formal or informal consultation
with FWS is required for any of these species.
HABITAT & SPECIES DISTRIBUTION AND EFFECTS DETERMINATION
Table 1 displays current information on habitat and T&E species' presence within the
project azea
