Artemisia tridentata big sage, and Carex spy. sedges.
• The permeability is moderate to rapid. Available water holding capacity is low
to moderate. Surface runoff is moderate, and the erosion hazard is high from wind
and moderate from water. The effective rooting depth is about 53 inches.
Stoniness class is I.
The land capability unit is Vlle.
MAP UNIT Un51 C: UNNAMED SERIES S I LOAM, 8 TO 15 PERCENT SLOPE
This deep, gently to moderately sloping, well-drained loamy soil occurs on wide
draws and swales. This unit is found on upper elevations in Sections 30 and 31, T.SN
R.85W at 7,000 to 8,100 feet elevation.
This mapping unit does not vary significantly in horizonation from the series
description, Unnamed Series 51 -deep phase.
Vegetation consists of Artemisia tridentata big sage and Quercus gambellii
gambel oak. Presently this soil is used for livestock grazing and wildlife habitat.
Permeability is moderate to rapid. Erosion hazard is high from wind and
moderate from water. Ground water depth is greater than 5 feet. Effective rooting
• depth is about SO inches. Stoniness class ranges from I to 3.
Land capability unit is Vlle.
MAP UNIT Un51D: UNNAMED SERIES 51 LOAM, IS TO 30 PERCENT SLOPE
This deep to very deep, well-drained, loamy soil forms on moderately steep
draws and side-slopes of draws. This mapping unit occurs in Sections 19, 30 and 31,
T.SN R.85W at 7,500 to 7,700 feet elevation.
This mapping unit does not vary significantly in horizonation from the series
description Unnamed Series 51 -deep phase, except that the subsoil is a clay loam
and extends to depths greater than 5 feet.
Primarily this soil has been used as rangeland and for wildlife habitat. Range
condition is fair and supports Artemisia tridentata big sage.
Permeability is moderate to rapid. Erosion hazard is moderate from water and
high from wind when vegetation is sparse. Effective rooting depth is about 5 feet.
Stoniness class is 3.
• Land capability class is Vlle.
2.3-19
