Phase IV Weekly Summary No. 45 Page 3
003-2203
Ames continued to place Concrete Plug (CP) concrete into "Deep Shafts" UG-222, UG-229, UG-234a,
UG-242, UG-246b, and UG-521. Ames placed three feet of concrete in accordance with IFC Drawing
12, detail 1.
Ames performed confirmatory drilling activities associated with the Phase Nc construction azea on
known underground workings UG-275, UG-277, UG-278, UG-286, UG-289, UG-290, and Un-named
tunnel 1.
Ames began blast drilling of underground workings within Phase Nc at UG-277 and UG-278. Ames
blasted underground workings at UG-278 delineated by confirmation drilling on January 23`s at 16:30
and UG-277 on January 25~'.
(See Attachment A for approximate construction locations for all Phase N azeas.)
Field Monitorine and Testing Activities
Golder observed construction activities associated with Phase N earthworks. All construction
materials and soil materials were verified as suitable, and construction methods were in accordance
with project specifications. Removal of oversized and deleterious material from all fill areas was
observed. Golder conducted temperature measurements of fill material prior to placement. No fill
was placed until fill temperatures met the requirements of the specifications.
Golder observed clearing and grubbing within the Phase IV azea. All available topsoil was removed
and deleterious material hauled to Upper Arequa Gulch.
Golder observed construction of the 84-inch culvert at the south end of the Permanent Diversion
Channel. Golder observed that the material placed (CSP, Pipe Bedding Fill, and Structural Fill) met
the requirements of the specifications. Golder observed field testing of the concrete placed for the
thrust block.
Golder observed placement of SF, SSF, CSB, and CP. These materials were placed in accordance
with the drawings and specifications into excavated or open underground workings. Golder
previously obtained samples of SF, SSF, and CSB for laboratory testing. Materials supplied met
specifications. Ground Engineering conducted field testing and sampling of CP concrete as per
specifications, and will supply strength results at the completion of 28-day testing.
Golder observed and documented excavation and remediation activities associated with the Phase N
underground working construction. Full time monitoring was given to excavation of underground
workings.
Golder observed and documented confirmation drilling activities associated with the Phase N
construction. Full time monitoring was given to confirmation drilling of underground workings
including logging holes, mazking drill locations, surveying holes, and documenting underground
workings encountered.
PhsaelVe451en13-Ib.doc Golder Associates Inc.
