Bond release requests will contain final revegetation
monitoring results which demonstrate that the reclaimed areas meet
or exceed release criteria. Final revegetation monitoring will
include cover, productivity (annual biomass production) and
diversity. Statistical adequacy requirements as specified in the
regulations will be met. Ground cover, production and diversity
will be compared to their respective standards established in 4.4.2
using appropriate statistical tests as described in 2.4. Final
revegetation monitoring results will be submitted to the CMLRD with
the phase III bond release request for the area.
4.4.4.3 Revegetation Monitoring Methods
Diversity and cover will be measured using randomly generated
ten-point frame transects. Starting locations for transects will be
determined by overlaying the permitted area with a numeric grid.
Transect direction will also be randomly oriented using compass
headings of 6-degree intervals. Transects that intersect the edge
of the monitoring area will be redirected at a 90-degree angle back
into the monitoring area. Each data point recorded will specify
litter, rock, bare soil, or the individual species of plant.
Productivity (annual biomass production) will be measured by
clipping 0.5 m2 quadrats offset 2 meters from each 10-meter diversity
and cover transect start point. Only herbaceous species will be
considered in productivity clippings. Air-dry or oven-dry weights
may be used, with the standard conversion equation used for
comparison (Bonham or equivalent (oven-dried weight is 90 percent of
air-dried weight)).
Woody plant density will be measured using random, 50-meter
long, modified-belt transects. The transects will be two meters
wide. Each individual woody plant observed within the transects'
area will be counted only once (each woody plant with multiple stems
will be counted as only one plant).
Renewal 1-3
4.4-23 August l8, 2005
