• Fish Creek fair to gou~l in upprr reaches but poor in
the vicinity of the tract.
Increases in sedimentation which could result from
veining on the tract wuul.d have a severe effect on the
aquatic ecosystems in Trout Creek and Fish Cr~~e.
Ti~is increase in siltation from fugiCive dust, over-
flow.or washing out of detention dar,;s (this has a low
probability of happening except during high sno•~fall
years and thunderstorms), haul :road runoff, surface
disturbance, and alteration of historic draina~c
patterns would result in (1) ra~uction and alteration
of benehic communities, {2) silting in of riffle
areas which are critical to trout spawning and `_eedin
• (3) increase in water temperatures and accompa;ying
decrease in dissolved oxygen content, and (4) increase
in disease due to abrasive and clogging effects of
i
siltation on gill filaments and string mucus.
i These iapacts could have drastic effects on the
~ fisheries by reducing feed for }•oung-of-the-year
trout, disrupting the food chain by reduction and/or
elimination of primary producers (:hose organisms
which produce organic -:latter from inorganic :materials),
suffocating eggs and/or reduction of critical spa~.aiin„
areas, and increasing siltation and turbidity, whic'.i
! mould impair sight feeding of the predator specie;.
•
14Q
...._ .
,. t,_ ........
