i
13
1
' EXHIBIT E - VEGETATION
1 The vegetation at the proposed quarry site is extremely
' sparse , being limited to a few Ponderosa pine trees which grow
in existing fissures of the rock outcrop. The vegetation on the
remaining one acre of the permit area occurs on the drainages
and alluvial slopes . The non-rock area is classified as a loamy
' park range site (SCS Cripple Creek, Dennis Davidson, 9/82) .
' Much of the site is on slopes of 3-12% with a sparse overstory
-%f Ponderosa pine and aspen. Elevations range on the site from
' 8 ,400 to 8 ,500 feet. The average annual precipitation is 15
' to 20 inches with about SO% of the moisture falling as snow.
Major native plants make their most active growth between mid-
' ' May and mid-August.
Loamy park sites are usually dominated by Arizona Fescue ,
' Mountain Muhley and Parry Oatgrass . Other important species are
' Nodding Brame, Mountain Brame , Slender Wheatgrass , Western
Wheatgrass , Columbia and Letterman' s Needlegrass .
' A threatened and endangered species survey was conducted
in conjunction with a vegetation field inventory on the site
' during the period of 9/13/82 and 9/14/82 . The plant species
' encountered during the study are listed in Table 2 . No threat-
ened and endangered species were encountered during the survey.
' Grasses on the site accounted for 75% of the ground cover with
forbs (13$) , shrubs (10$) , and tree species (2%) accounting
for the remaining 25% of the vegetative ground cover.
