f
Mr. Randy Overton ~ •
December 2, 1977
Page 3
and indicated that the entire St. Vrain Valley has the potential
for being filled by a series of ponds and lakes, unless alternate
forms of reclamation (filling quarries) are proposed. The evapora-
tive losses resulting from the creation of large areas of surface
water should be addressed, not just in this case, but in others as
well.
a~ „r,. 3. In regard to the proposed reclamation plan, no information is
} „~ ~~- provided concerning the volumes of material that will be
~~ ~ ~-~- available to accomplish the plan. Also, it should be noted
~,,,py~:.~t'~' that material from this site will be used in the reclamation
effort at the Corporation's silica operation located west of
North Foothills Highway.
According to the Martin Marietta representative, this material can
be easily furnished.
4. In order to evaluate the reclamation plan, a more detailed contour
aJ,.A.~ ~ map (2' intervals) would be desirable. The Staff is also concerned
-~ Q~ with the visual impact of the mining, and the more detailed plan
~a4 u(~'"'~ would provide a better indication of the final appearance of the
property.
a< 5.~ The Boulder Citq-County Health Department has indicated some pro-
¢„~ ~,..,k, blems with air uality at the site as detailed in the attached
memorandum. Efforts to resolve these problems should continue.
6. The Staff requests clarification as to the purpose and proposed
activities, if any, to be located in the buffer area designated on
the quarry reclamation plan. How does this area differ from other
portions of the site not shown as pits or waste areas?
The representative of the Corporation stated there would be no
activities in the buffer area.
7. Will ally changes in the plant be required, or will major changes in
the nature of the operation be proposed?
The representative of the Corporation stated that there would be no
expansions in the plant itself and that no major changes in the
nature of the operation are comtemplated.
8. No mining of sand and gravel will be allowed without the appropriate
Special Use approval from Boulder County.
The representative of Martin Parietta indicated that there have
been some gravel operations on the property, but that no mining of
sand and gravel would begin without the appropriate Special Use
approval from Boulder County, or unless a legal non-conforming use
had been established with the County.
