14 r. John Auffrey
1. Dean Pit:
~ „s
~;~1 "x i; a. What i s
k Qse'~1~,~ produced as
~ St'/
-4-
to be done with the "waste" stockpile?
a part of the mining operation?
October 17, 1983
Is this material
P' b. The rectangular permit area shown on the map comprises 6.1 acres.
Furthermore, another shaded area labeled "previously disturbed" is shown
rfyfi V to the south of the outlined permit area. Keeping in mind that any
L°~„ty, areas disturbed by you since July 1, 1976 must be reclaimed as apart of
this operation and that any older disturbed areas that are redisturbed
yla 'l`~~6.as a part of this operation must also be part of the permit area, please
5;'~ ~ clarify the total acreage to be permitted. This may require
modification of the map.
8. Clodfelter Pit:
IL c
S~rb~wa°st ~`a. The planned location of all types of stockpiles (topsoil, gravel
{~Yr Jand waste) should be either clarified in the text or shown on the map.
~ k ~`
D Exhibit D
1. Wildlife - Please be advised that the recommendations made by the
~~ ~° Division of Wildlife for each of these seven operations are to be incorporated
4A. into your permitr applications. Specifically, protection from grazing until
<~` ~ vegetation has become established is important for all seven pits. Also, the
comments concerm, ing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pit are important
considering thatt the end use inay involve wildlife habitat.
2. Soi 1 s - Alit hough t
pits, no descriptions of
,rill with the descriptions of
wpb y, be able to provide these
~K~1 evaluate the rezommended
Exhibit E
ie enclosed maps show the general soils for these
these soils are given. Please provide the Division
the soils for each of these pits. The S.C.S. should
descriptions. This will allow me to more clearly
seed mixtures (and is an application requirement).
1. As a general rule., slopes should nut be left at greater than 3h:ly if
l °•~ any re vegetation is to be successful and if erasion is to be prevented.
3 J Therefore, I re mmmend that you commit to leaving reclaimed slopes at a slope
of 3h:ly or flatter for all seven operations.
2. In areas vhere dry creek beds are to be mined (the Adams and Smartt
IPits), a greater amount of detail should be given to the reclamation of the
site. The ends of the excavation in the dry creek bed should be left at
p1~ lOh:ly or flatter to avoid upstream and downstream erosion. Reconstructed
ll D~/,, banks should be left at 3h:ly or flatter and topsoiled and re vegetated as per
P' tfie plan. Any areas disturbed outside of the dry creek bed should be
reclaimed as per the S.C.S. plans. Please clarify your plans in this regard.
