SECTION I - GEOLOGY
General Description
The bedrock underlying the subject area is of the
Mesozoic Age, continental and marine sedimentary rocks.
In the Denver reach of the South Platte River basin,
where the subject property is located, the major flood-
plain and valley-fill deposits constitute a good source
of commercial quality mineral deposits.
Site Geology
'fhe ground elevation (5,025'j of Ilazeltine Reclancitiun
Pit is situated in the flood-plain of So. Platte River to
the west, that meanders in the alluvial plain approximar.ely
1-1/2 miles wide.
'I'I~~• All:llu:: C:uuuly I'luunlny; 11cp:lrlinr•ul. :Ind tll:;rr lln•
I:n nYn~ln G4n1 ny;i c~:ll '~Ilrvt•y l; u: nln lrlu•d and desi }~,n:ll ril I I1~`
subjecl, property as stream valley-1111 dupusits (Ll~lud I~LaLn)
containing relatively clean and sound material. Good organic
topsoil varies with depth across the property averaging 7"
to 16" throughout the subject area. The overburden averages
approximately 6' in depth across the property.
The depth of mineral deposits range from 6' to 48',
interspersed with some clay and reject material in between.
Past and Present Mineral Extraction
Presently there is no mineral extraction activities on
subject property. As discussed earlier there are numerous sand
and gravel mining operations south and north of subject prop-
erty following the So. Platte River Valley.
Definitely, the proposed mining and reclamation operation
will not be unique to the area.
Overburden Material
A total of approximately 1,100,000 cubic yards of over-
burden exists on subject property; 25% or about 250,000 cubic
yards of the total is believed to be organic topsoil.
The above amounts of overburden and topsoil will be
utilized in accomplishing the final reclamation of the area
as shown in the Reclamation Plan.
-13-
