(e) Productivity of the soils within the permit area are very limited as
•
indicated by the capability unit ratings described. Potential for increased
productivity of those soils disturbed as a result of mining operations is
not anticipated.
2.04.12 Prime Farmland Investigation
The limited amount of surtace disturbance associated with the Roadside
North Portals and Roadside South Portals Facility is located in areas
listed as "Cameo" and "Torriorthents, warm rock outcrop" soil types. Due
to this designation we believe prime farmland investigation in this area is
not necessary.
None of the existing areas of land disturbed by surtace facilities is
considered prime farmland since, historically none of the disturbed areas
are used as cropland.
•
In many cases the slopes of land in disturbed areas are more than ten
(10) percent, such as the Roadside Refuse Pile, the Cameo Refuse
Piles, and the naturally occurring slopes in all of the disturbed areas
except the Unit Train Loading Facility and the Overland Conveyor.
None of the land within the disturbed areas is irrigated, nor has a
developed water supply. Groundwater in these areas is of poor quality
and not suitable for irrigation water (see Tab Section 7, Groundwater
Hydrology). Average annual precipitation is 9.0 inches (see Tab Section
S, Climatological Information),
• 9-5 (Rev. 12!16/96)
