Ideally, this information needs to be
obtained for as many of the existing wells in the area as possible. Testing wells before,
during, and after blasting is the best way to detect any changes to the groundwater.
Any potential pollution from the railroad residue and the rock quarry operations to
Tallahassee Creek and the Arkansas River should be addressed to the Colorado
Department of Health and/or the Environmental Protection Agency.
As with any conflict, we need to define the issues that created this conflict. There are
obviously many shared concerns and needs of people in this area. I will assist you any
way I can to develop a solution to these issues that are present before us. Without good
factual data it is difficult for any of us to make appropriate decisions.
Please contact me at the number or address above if you would like to discuss this
project in more detail. Our office can provide guidance to you and anyone else if they
are interested in developing a monitoring program.
Sincerely,
~~
Dick Wolfe, P.E.
Water Supply Branch South Region
Cc: Hal Simpson, State Engineer
Steve Kastner, Assistant Division Engineer
Larry Oehler, Division of Minerals and Geology
