PROCEDURE 1NIN-1 <br />APPENDIX B <br /> <br />CORROSIVES (continued) <br />Large Spills - No Fire <br />Page 3 of 9 <br />06/29/07 <br />Dilute Acld (14%) or Ferric Sulfate <br />PPE: Chemical splash protection; respirator required; faceshield; rubber gloves; and rubber boots. <br />Response: <br />• Evaluate situation. <br />• Secure area. <br />• Rescue & First Aid, If necessary & possible. <br />• Dam or dike ahead of the spill; heavy equipment is available for earihmoving. <br />• Cleanup with water is allowed; contain all runoff, excavate an emergency catch basin, if possible. <br />Remedlagon: <br />• Evaluate situaton. <br />• Certify fire as extinguished. <br />• Absorb spilled materials, if possible, with earth or other suitable material. <br />• Transport contaminated soils to the Whirlwind Waste Dump storage area fortemporary storage until <br />a permanent disposal site is determined. <br />Large Spill -Fire <br />Dflute or Concentrated Corrosives <br />PPE: Full-coverage acid suit; self-contained 6realhing apparatus (ahernately full-face respirator with <br />combination cartridges for very small fires that can be quickly knocked down); faceshield; rubber <br />gloves and boots. <br />Response: <br />• Evaluate situation. <br />• Secure area. <br />• All electrical equipment must be de-energized. <br />^ Rescue & First Aid, if necessary & possible. <br />• Far a small fire use available dry-chemkal fire extinguishers to knock down the fire. Do not use <br />water. <br />• For large fire, concentrate on protecting adjacent structures and slowly flood area with water from a <br />safe distance. <br />• Direct extinguishing agent in a manner to avoid splashing spilled material. <br />• Dam and dike at a safe distance to control runoff, excavate an emergency catch basin , if possible. <br />• Perform overhaul, if spilled material can ba avoided. <br />Remediation: <br />• Evaluate situation. <br />• Certify fire as extinguished. <br />• Absorb spilled materials, if possible, with earth or other suitable malarial. <br />• Transport contaminated soils to the West Waste Dump storage area for temporary storage until a <br />permanent disposal site is determined. <br />
