Getches, Ezecuhve Director
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
DAVID C. SHELTO N, Director
Richard D. Lamm
Governor
May 20, 1985
Mr. Mike Leidich
Robinson Brick and Tile Company
P.O. Box 5243
Denver, Colorado 80217
Re: Ute Mine, File No. M-79-221
Dear Mr. Leidich:
We have just completed an adequacy review of this application and believe
everything is in order except for the following minor concerns. As you know
this application is currently scheduled at the Mined Land Reclamation Board
meeting of June 25-26, 1985 in Paonia. The meeting will be held at the Paonia
Nigh School Common Room or Auditiorium (1151 Highway 187). Please respond to
the following concerns no later than June 14, 1985 to allow for Division
review.
Exhibit D - Mining Plan
Is the operator still mining is stages 0 and A or has mining progressed to a
new stage?
If mining does occur in areas 1, 2, or 3 please notify the Division of that
fact. We are now assuming these areas will not be mined (as specified in the
application) unless notified of such a change.
Is the life of this mine still 30 years (ie.: 2015) or has this changed (and
if so please specify new anticipated life of mine)?
Exhibit E - Reclamation Plan
Page 17, last paragraph addresses "basinal areas will remain after all
backfill material is used". Is the Division correct in assuming that these
areas are not intended as ponding structures but rather will have a gentle
grade to allow drainage?
During the Division's inspection of this site on March 1, 1985, a concern was
raised pertaining to the topsoil stockpiles. Page 37 of the application
addresses vegetation on existing stockpiles. The Division would like to
reiterate the specification on page 13 of the application of seeding any new
soil stockpiles with Western Wheatgrass. Also, we suggest that if a soil
stockpile does last for more than one growing season that besides seeding it
be graded to no steeper than 3h:ly to assist in maintaining soil quality and
quantity.
423 Centennial building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel.
