eh
ESPEY, HUSTON & ASSOCIATES, INC.
•
2.3 AIR QUALITY MONTTORS (TSP ONLY)
Total suspended pazticulate sampling is accomplished by using General
Metal Works Model GMWL-2000-H hi vol samplers equipped with Dickson flow
recorders. The Dickson flow recorder utilizes a pressure transducer to obtain a
continuous record of sample flow rate. The hi vol samplers pull a measured volume
of ambient air through a glass fiber filter. The sampler is mounted on a platform
such that the filter surface is a maximum of 3 meters from the ground in order to
reduce the influence of ground level fugitive dust sources.
2.4 DATA REDUCTION ANALYSIS
The hi vol samplers at the Meeker Area Mines site use Dickson flow
recorders to obtain a continuous record of the flow rate is cubic feet per minute
(CFM) on a circulaz chazt. Data reduction for flow rate involves averaging the
chazt flow readings over six-hour periods, and then obtaining actual flow rate
readings from a calibration curve. An average actual flow rate is then calculated
for the 24-hour period. Total sample volume is obtained by multiplying average
actual flow rate times total sample time. The weight of particulate matter is
determined gravimetrically by weighing the filter before and after a sample run.
Ambient total suspended pazticulate matter is expressed as the weight of pazticu-
late matter collected per volume of air sampled corrected to standazd conditions of
25° C and 760 millimeters Hg. This concentration is expressed as micrograms pet
standazd cubic meter (}Ig/m3).
Wind speed and direction data aze recorded on strip charts. The data
from these charts aze manually reduced to hourly average wind speed and direction.
These values aze entered into a computer which prints out the data in tabulaz form.
Temperature is manually reduced from the strip chazts and reported as
hourly average values. Chart divisions aze every 5° F. Data is reduced to the
neazest degree and tabulated by computer.
H-7
-- - .~ ..
