No public lands are within <br />the boundary, therefore, my comments are not intended to conflict those <br />respective owners land use plans. <br />The proposed postmining use of rangeland is .consistent with uses on <br />adjacent federal lands. Historically, the subject area has been used as <br />native rangeland for cattle and sheep as well as wildlife. A portion <br />of the nurchecn part eF ttie area has been usad as cropland, primarily. <br />• cereal crops. On a limited basis brush control by spraying techniques <br />' has been done for purposes of better forage utilization. Because of the <br />ertensive dense oak ( uercus gambellii), it would be desirable is pTTat- . <br />mining reclamation practices to reduce oak density. This would allow <br />for greater utilization of forage as well as reducing competition of <br />.desirable species. <br />Production and species data collected over a several year period would <br />probably reflect more accurately what capability would be, under present <br />management techniques.
