UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
SOIL CONSERVATION SERVICE
422 East First St., Trinidad, CO 81082 6/7/82
D. H. Emling Co.
Mining Engineers & Geologists
7800 East Union Ave., Suite 420
Denver, CO 80237
Dear Mr. Lewicki:
I am writing you in regards to the approximate 10.6 acre tract of
alluvial terrace within the boundaries of the property managed by
the Sundance Coal Co.
It is not common practice in Las Animas County to farm or intensively
cultivate a tract of land less than 20 acres in size. With the
current cost of machinery and the cultivation practices required in
any farming operation it is not economically feasible to farm a tract
of land of this size.
• As far as grazing by livestock is concerned it takes approximately
80 acres to run an animal unit on a year round basis in the general
area of the Sundance Coal Co. The 10.6 acres would provide grazing
for one (1) animal unit (cow with calf) for two months.
Sincerely,
William R. Watson
District Conservationist

596
0
