• Section 816.49(f) Continued. <br />Routine inspections of dams and embankments will be conducted as <br />described in Sections 816.46 (q), and 816.46 (r). <br />(g) All dams and embankments shall be routinely maintained during the <br />mining operations. Yegetative growth shall be cut where necessary to <br />facilitate inspection and repairs. Ditches and spillways shall be <br />cleaned. Any combustible material present on the surface, other than <br />material such as mulch or dry vegetation used for surface stability, shall <br />be removed and all other appropriate maintenance procedures followed. <br />All impoundments will be maintained according to specifications set <br />forth in Exhibit 42, Drainage and Sediment Control Plan. Maintenance <br />procedures will include keeping ditches, culverts, spillways, and <br />other outlet structures free of debris. Combustible material other <br />. than mulch or other material needed for erosion control and surface <br />stability will be removed. Inspection of ali impoundments for <br />compliance with the provisions of this paragraph will be performed by <br />the person inspecting impoundments as described in Section 816.46 <br />(q)• <br />(h) All dams and embankments that meet or exceed the size or other <br />criteria of 30 CFR 77.216(a) shall be certified to the regulatory <br />authority by a qualified registered professional engineer, immediately <br />after construction and annually thereafter, as having been constructed <br />and/or maintained to comply with the requirements of this Section. All <br />dams and embankments that do not meet the size or other criteria of 30 CFR <br />77.216(a) shall be certified by either a qualified registered professional <br />engineer or a registered land surveyor, except that all coal <br />• <br />816-67R Revised -January, 1991 <br />
