Section 816.43(b) Continued.
are stabilized by vegetation. Asphalt, concrete, or other similar linings
shall be used only when approved by the regulatory authority to prevent
seepage or to provide stability.
No permanent diversions of overland flow, shallow ground water flow,
ephemeral, or intermittent streams are proposed in the Mine Plan
Area.

At the tipple area, the only permanent diversion structure is the
existing irrigation ditch, located east and north of the tipple,
which will divert surface runoff around the area of operations. This
diversion structure has been designed to pass safely the 10-year
recurrence interval precipitation event, as required. This ditch
will be stabilized with grass lining and vegetated out-slopes.
Design criteria for this permanent diversion structure are given in
Figure 30a, Permanent Diversion Structures.
(c) Diversions shall be designed, constructed, and maintained in a manner
which prevents additional contributions of suspended solids to streamflow
and to runoff outside the permit area, to the extent possible using the
best technology currently available. Appropriate sediment control
measures for these diversions may include, but are not limited to,
maintenance of appropriate gradients, channel lining, revegetation,
roughness structures and detention basins.
The temporary diversions described in this section will reduce
potential contributions of suspended solids to streamflow and runoff.
The diversion structures will be constructed with minimum gradients
to pass the design flow and will be lined with the grass species
shown in Table 67a, Kerr Mine Area Seed Mixture.

816-39 aaR
Revised - January, 1991
