Exhibit K - Climate Information
The climate of the area varies because of topography and
climatological information has to be interpolated from various limited
sources. Much of the data was derived from various National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration publications which compile data from a recording
stations Dam, located west of the subject area, and at Pagosa Springs.
Other climatic data was obtained from Climates of the States. Colorado, by
Joseph Berry, U.S. Department of Commerce, Climatography of the United
States, No. 60-5.
The mean annual temperature is about 43 degrees F. The mean minimum
January temperature is about 6 degrees F.; the mean maximum January
temperature stands at about 38 degrees F. In July, the mean minimum
temperature is about 47 degrees P and the mean maximum temperature is about
81 degrees F. The seasonal temperature ranges from about 90 degrees F to a
low of about -15 or -20 degrees F.
The mean annual precipitation is about 18 inches. About 45 percent of
the annual precipitation falls between April 1st and September 30th as a
result of late spring snow and summer storms. The average seasonal
snowfall is about 125 inches.
The frost-free period (daily minimum temperature higher than 32
degrees F) averages about 80 days in length; the growing season for native
plants is March through September with the optimum growth period in the
early spring and summer months.
-22-
