EXHIBIT D - MINING PLAN
The Villard Pit #2 is a 66 acre project containirry 50 acres
of scattered gravel deposits to be mined. The soils are varieties
of mountain loam with slopes that range from 3$ to 30% with an
average slope of 10~ rising from west to east.
Most of the 16 acre area tkrat is designated in the southwest
quadrant of the site is below the gravel horizon (Exhibit C-2)
and it will likely not be mined, however, part of this area may
be disturbed by local road access and the storage of materials.
Because tkre gravel deposits are widely scattered and they follow
irregular patterns, one can only estimate that 35 acres will be
disturbed in the "Gravel Zorre" and 5 acres may be disturbed in
the southwest quadrant. The total disturbance area is estimated
to be 40 acres for tkre purpose of reclamation computations.
The taryet mining zones contairr heavy concentrations of
basalt fragments ranging from small stones to large boulders,
some of the zones contain alluvial deposits similar to a glacial
outwash stream. In the known areas, some gravel depths range from
6 feet to 15 feet. An average of 9 feet will be used for
computation purposes. There are some thin gravel zones that
overlay deposits of sarrd arrd dirt at the base. No bedrock was
encountered in a total of 16 exploration holes. The bottom of
tkre thicker deposits were not reached, therefore, neither the
depth of the gravel nor the bedrock formation is known.
Although the primary mining zones lie in the northern
portion of the "Gravel Mining Zone" between the 7140 and 7200
contour lines, Moffat County may mine in any portion of the
designated 5u acre zone deperrding on the quality arrd quantity of
the local materials needed.
The topsoil on 'the affected area is typically a clay loam
heavily burdened with stones. Larger stones will be salvaged
for rip-rap where possible, anti from o" to 12" of topsoil will be
stripped and stored in an area that will be protected from the
mining activity, and from local drainage channels until it is
needed for reclamation. The topsoil piles will be shaped and
stabilized by seeding them with Moffat County's approved seed-mix
and application formula. Signs will be placed to identify the
topsoil and to caution not to reinove. Overburden piles will be
stabilized and protected from erosion.
EXHIBIT o
