• utilize this haul road segment will be 10 wheel dump trucks and 18 wheel haul trucks,
Truck traffic will also be very limited and sporadic. Use of the waste disposal area will
only occur after the McClane Canyon mine has generated coal mine waste. Four truck
loads per hour is the anticipated maximum traffic volume. The haul trucks will only
encounter an occasional vehicle on the road. Considering the low volume and sporadic
use of the haul road, the width and surfacing of the haul road should be adequate for
the intended traffic.
The haul road is located in the valley floor to minimize erosion. There are no
fords of ephemeral stream channels.
The haul road begins at SH139 and ends at the east edge of the waste disposal
area. The road is approximately 6,300 feet long with an average grade of 2.3%. The
maximum pitch grade of the road is 3%.
There are virtually no road cuts on this haul road section. It is constructed on
grade in the valley floor. The relocated section of haul road will also be constructed on
the valley floor. For the relocation of the haul roads on site, all vegetation material and
• topsoil will be removed from the design road bed, shoulders, and surfaces where
associated structures will be placed. Topsoil will be placed in the topsoil stockpile. No
vegetation material or topsoil will be placed beneath or in any haul road embankment.
Construction
The following embankment specification applies to road sections not within the
disturbed area in accordance with Rule 4.05.2(4). In the placement of embankment for
the haul road, materials will be spread in layers approximately 12 inches deep, and
such lifts made uniformly over long stretches and for the full width of the embankment.
Each lift will be moistened or dried to a uniform moisture content suitable for maximum
compaction. Hauling equipment will be routed both ways over the fill and routing varied
sufficiently to achieve uniform compaction. Compaction will be carried to the edge of
the fills so that the final slopes are firm. A sheepsfoot roller or other suitable equipment
may be required to achieve compaction. Compaction of each lift will continue until the
• Permit Renewal 2-8 09/03
