The mine bench was excavated to the size necessary for underground
exploration activities (2.69 acres). The bench site was selected and approved by virtue
of a joint on site inspection by the United States Geological Survey, Bureau of Land
Management and representatives of Sheridan Enterprises, Inc..
The reclaimed rail loadout, within the railroad right-of-way, is described in
Section 2.2.7.
The road to the Munger Canyon site was constructed along the hillside and
adjacent to an ephemeral drainage to a width necessary for its intended use. The
purpose of this road was access and limited haulage necessary for the underground
exploration activities undertaken at the site.
No topsoil was salvaged from the mine bench or road. The only area that
t~ J
exhibited even marginal topsoil was a portion of the road on the canyon floor, according
to criteria existing at the time of the disturbance. In this area the mine road was
established over an existing road.
All facilities, with the exception of the power line, have been removed and
reclaimed. Munger Canyon Mine has been placed in temporary cessation status and
the operator has no future plans to mine coal from this site.
2.1.1 Type and Method of Mining
The lower split of the Cameo seam has been accessed from a bench at the coal
seam outcrop. Exploration development entries have been driven approximately 2500
feet in the lower split utilizing afive-entry system. These entries were driven 1600 feet
southeast then turned due east and driven a distance of 900 feet, see Figure 2.1-1.
2.1.2 Life of Mine
No future development is planned for Munger Canyon Mine.
I~
Permit Renewal
2-2
09/03
