r~
LJ
2.0 MINE PLAN
The Munger Canyon Mine operations are in temporary cessation. The mine
portals have been sealed and partially backfilled.
The operator will continue to maintain the Munger site in its current size and
configuration until the mains from the McClane Canyon Mine have passed the location
of the Munger Canyon Mine. At that time the decision to reclaim the site or use if for
ventilation or access to the southern reserves will be made. If Munger will not be used
it will be reclaimed as detailed in the permit application. If Munger will be used to
access the coal this permit will be amended for the necessary facilities. Mining at
McClane wi11 turn toward the south between ten and fifteen years from now. This period
may be shorter or longer dependent upon the rate of production at McClane.
The coal from the Loma Loadout site was excavated and trucked to the Munger
•
mine site where it was backfilled against the highwall as described in Section 3.0. The
reclamation of the Loma Loadout and interim reclamation at the Munger mine bench
was completed during the fall of 2001.
2.1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF MINING OPERATIONS
Mining activities at the Munger Canyon Mine began in 1977 under authority of an
exploration permit issued through the USGS. The activities were subsequently
permitted through the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board and the Federal Office
of Surface Mining.
Mining activities in the Cameo Coal seam established a mine that extended
I•
about 2,500 feet into the reserve block. The exploration mine revealed that the
thickness and quality of the Cameo would not be constant throughout the area. The
coal seam pinched from ten feet thick to about five feet thick at the face. Quality of the
coal was effected by out of seam dilution in the thinner areas.
Permit Renewal
2-1
01 /04
