Revision
February 1982
2.05.5 Post-mining Land Uses
• (2} Underground Mining Activities
Post-mining land use will not be altered from current use
2.05.6 Mitigation of Surface Coal Mining Operation Impacts
(1) Air Pollution Control Plan
Emission permit applications and copies of permits are included in
Appendix X,.12. Appendix XVI includes additional information on air pollu-
• tion control. Exhibits 2.05.6-A and 2.05.6-B indicate far_ilities on the
East and West Portal areas which require emission permits. Particulate air
quality in the study area ranges from 20 to 132 micrograms per cubic meter
(ug/m3) annual geometric mean as recorded at sixteen state, municipal, and
privately operated particulate sampling sites. In undeveloped sections,
particulate concentrations range from 20 to 40 ug/m3.
The available particulate sampling data which best represent existing
particulate air quality at the Hawk's Nest Mine are provided by a privately
operated sampler located on the Atlantic Richfield Company proposed site
for the Mt. Gunnison Mine. The annual geometric mean concentrations
recorded on the sampling site in 1977 were 28 ug/m3, with first and second
maximum 24-hour concentrations of 95 and 69 ug/m3, respectively.
• There have been no measurements of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon,
nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, or other gaseous pollutants near the
2.05-56'
