Revision
February 1982
Below the highway, grading of backfilled surfaces will provide a
reclaimable contour with a grade of approximately 25 percent. Rocklined
ditches will be provided for the two watercourses which cross the West
Portal area. The constructed channels will be directed into permanent
culverts under the railroad tracks.
The straw dike along the riverbank will be removed and the sediment
pond will be filled and graded to form a nearly level terrace. Isolated
disturbed areas along the riverbank will be contoured and riprapped in such
a way as to provide substrate for reestablishment of riparian vegetation.
(4) Topsoil
• (see Section 4.06)
(5). Revegetation
Revegetation will be carried out in a manner to encourage a prompt
vegetative cover and recovery of productivity levels compatible with the
approved post-mining land use of wildlife habitat and livestock grazing.
All disturbed areas will be seeded or planted to achieve a permanent vege-
tative cover of the same seasonal variety native to the area. The vegeta-
tive cover will be that which is capable of self-regeneration and plant
succession and equivalent to the natural vegetation of the area.
The proposed reclamation schedule is presented in Table 2.05.4.A. The
following subsections describe the major aspects of the proposed revegeta-
ti on plan.
2.05-50
1 i _
