Irrc.
804 N. 25th Ave.
Greeley, CO 80631
Dear Mrs. Bucklen:
r
Enclosed is information regarding the reclamation of a proposed sand and
gravel pit located in ttie WZSW'~ Sec. 31, T6North, R65 West, Weld Co. Colorado.
The site in question shill be considered a critical treatment area. Prfor
to seeding, the side slopes should be shaped to a grade of not more than
4:1 and topsoil replaced to a depth of approximately 6 inches.
If reseeding is not done• soon after application of topsoil then a light
disking operation may bE necessary to break up the crust on the soil surface
and remove any possible weeds.
This should be followed by a fertilizer application of 40 lbs. of nitrogen
and 40 lbs. of phosphorous per acre.
The species chosen for the actual reseeding consists entirely of native
perennials which are not only well adapted to the soil type and conditions
present but which also s~dapt quite well together. They are as follows:
SPECIES 4'ARIETY % IN MIXTURE RATE/AC ACRES LBS OF PLS*
47ESTERN [dttEAT P,RRIBA 50 8.0 lbs. 18.3 146.4
S?•IITCHGRASS GR.E!`NILLE 30 1.351bs. 18.3 24.7
ALKALI.SACATON NATIVE 20 0.301bs. 18.3 5.5
TOTAL= 176.6 lbs.
of PLS
*PLS (PURE LIVE SEED) _ % PURITY X % GERMINATIOtJ. BULK QUANTITY WILL MOST
LIKELY BE 200-250 LBS. (THIS WILL BE FIGURED FOR YOU WHEN YOU ORDER THE
SEED. BUT BE SURE TO SFECIFY POUNDS OF PURE LIVE SEED).
She seed should be planted to a depth of '~ to 3/4" using a grass drill dquipped
with a satisfactory feeding mechanism, agitator, double disk furrow openers
and packer wheels. If a broadcast method of seeding is used then the afore-
mentioned seeding rates should be doubled and the area raked over to work
the seed into the soil.
