4. A 100 foot greenbelt area of undisturbed natural materials is
to be left separating the mine site from the river channel. Is
this distance a proposed top width, or is it a measurement from
the toe of the excavated slope to the eda_e of the channel?
Please address the potential for failure of this berm, and
describe measures which will be taken to insure its stability
both during and after mining in the context of natural bank
erosion and ma,ior flood events.
5. We have received letters from nearby homeowners, expressing
their concerns that the potential for offsite damage due to
flood flows will be aggravated by this operation, and that
there will be an increased likelihood of further realignment of
the river channel to their determent. Please address these
issues.
6. Does any aspect of your plan constitute placement of fill
material in a wetlands, making it necessary to get a 404 permit
from the Army Corps of Engineers?
7. Please provide details regarding your proposed dewatering
operations. What pumping rate do you anticipate will be
necessary to dewater the site? During what time period do you
intend to operate the site each year? Will pumping be
intermittent or continuous during this period?
8. Do you propose to incorporate any sedimentation ponds or
se-*_ling areas into your proposed dewatering plan? If so,
please provide design details and supporting computations for
any such structures.
9. It appears that you intend to operate asphalt and concrete
batch plants in conjunction with this operation, Will these
facilities be situated in the flood plain? Please describe
measures which will be taken to minimize adverse environmental
impacts as a result of operation of these processing facilities
during bath normal and flood conditions.
- 10. On the Mining Plan Map, there are a number of existing
structures noted which appear to be within 200 feet of the
proposed permit area. These include a drainage ditch, two
power lines, and three homes. Please describe in detail
measures which will be taken to prevent damage to these
structures. Also, please indicate on the Maps the exact
location of any such structures not already shown thereon.
11, Please discuss temporary re vegetation and other measures, if
any, which will be used for interim stabilization of topsoil
and overburden stockpiles. Any topsoil stockpiled for over one
year must be stabilized.
