1 • During construction of the underground development waste disposal <br />area, the area will be staked and flagged to protect it from <br />disturbance. All other areas surveyed are considered to be <br />archaeologically cleared. <br />In November 1990, a cultural resource overview of the <br />5,410 acre permit revision area was completed. The report was <br />generated to determine the type and probability of prehistoric <br />and historic cultural resource sites which may be located in the <br />expansion area north of Highway 12. This study involved the <br />inspection of literary and land office records as well as <br />topographic maps in their search for historic cultural locations. <br />Two previous archeological surveys were also used to predict the <br />quantity and location of prehistoric sites. <br />Most of the cultural locations are located along the <br />Picketwire Valley and its tributaries. Prehistoric site <br />densities have been delineated into three concentration <br />potentials. Their probable location and concentrations have been <br />mapped and included in the report. The report is contained in <br />Exhibit 5, Cultural and Historic Resource Information. <br />2.04.5 General Description of Geology and Hydrology <br />A general description of the hydrologic and geologic <br />setting was prepared by Water, Waste and Land, Ltd. for both the <br />Golden Eagle and New Elk Mines.
