EXHIBIT D MINING PLAN (coNT.)
almost vertical and there are areas along the northwest and west
central sides where the floor daylights out historic drainages.
Please note that reclamation is running concurrent with mining to
reduce the amount of disturbance at any one time. Review of MAP
EXHIBITC-1 shows how we expect the site to look when mining is
approximately 62°s done. Note, the floor of the excavation is
flat and the slopes into the mined area are 3h to lv where mining
is complete (east side).
By using the existing permit area as the starting point we
reduce the amount of time it will take to open the facility and
the amount of area that will be disturbed initially. It also
allows us and the landowner to utilize material produced but not
used for the highway project covered by the 111 permit. As
mining begins on the new area, a portion will be striped of any
topsoil/overburden. The growth medium will be stockpiled on the
excavated area so it will be available for reclamation. Once an
area has been stripped, mining will begin. The gravel will be
removed by frontend loaders, dozers and scrapers working at the
face, it will then be processed or hauled from the site as pit
run material. There may be piles of screened material on site
that will be removed as the market demands. This plan of
operation will continue until all material is removed.
Reclamation will begin once we have enough area to store mined
material and the section to be reclaimed will not have to be
disturbed again. As mining progresses around the property the
bank slopes will be mined or shaped to the required slopes where
they are in their final location. This will reduce the amount of
work that has to be done to reclaim the site.
This pit will be operated year-around by McAtee Construction
Company on a lease from Donald and Robert Bollish, weather
permitting. There may be periods when the market demands for
material are slow and no mining will take place. Stockpiles of
material are maintained on the site and, as the need arises, it
will be hauled to our plant in Sterling or sold directly to
clients. This is a single stage operation, but the amount of
disturbance will be limited to 20 acres or less at any one time.
This will allow us to use approximately 5 acres as a processing
plant/stockpile area and approximately 15 acres for the active
mining area. The plant site/stockpile area will remain where it
is now, in the current permit area. This will allow mining to
progress to the north and reduce the haul distance from the plant
site to the county road.
As mining progresses additional area will be stripped ahead
of the mine face and the topsoil will be stockpiled along the
setbacks around the permit area. This material will be used when
reclamation begins for recoiling slopes and other areas where
soil will be needed to establish vegetation. By limiting the
amount of area stripped at any one time we will lessen the visual
effects of the mining operation on surrounding areas as much as
possible. Please refer to the M!NlNG TIMETABLE on page 10 for the
estimated acreage of each area associated with the mining part of
this operation.
Mining equipment may include but is not limited to, front-
end loaders, scrapers, a dragline, bulldozers, dump trucks and a
9
