system these leachate results from the coarse and fine refuse should provide
• an adequate characterization of that material as well.
We propose to use a clarifying agent, Percol 725(155), a product of
Allied Colloids, to facilitate removal of fines from the fines slurry (Figure
II.A-3). Approximately 7 lbs/hr of this material will be added to the fines
slurry as indicated in Figure II.A-3. Percol 725(]55) is a copolymer of
acrylamide and sodium acrylite. The polymer is nontoxic. Trace amounts of
the unreacted monomer, acrylamide, which is toxic (USEPA FR 45:33132), are
present with the polymer. Dewatering of mine refuse and the dilution of these
trace amounts in the fines slurry will greatly reduce the amount of acrylamide
in the stowed waste.
Grass radiological analyses of slurry and the coarse refuse leachate
showed alpha levels of 0 ± 7 pCi/R in the slurry and 1 ± 2 pCi/e in the
• coarse refuse and beta levels of 9 ± 7 pCi/A in the slurry and 6 + 2 pCi/A
in the coarse refuse.
•
19
