M03107GE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report presents the results of the geotechnical engineering
study we conducted for the proposed Coal Processing Facility at the
Bowie Number 2 Mine located near Paonia, Colorado. The study was
conducted at the request of Mr. Jim Stover, J.E. Stover and Associ-
ates, in general accordance with our proposal for geotechnical
engineering services dated April 23, 2003.
The conclusions, suggestions and recommendations presented in
this report are based on the data gathered during our site and
laboratory study and on our experience with similar soil condi-
tions. Factual data gathered during the field and laboratory work
are summarized in Appendices A and B.
1.1 Proposed Construction
It is our understanding that the Coal Processor Facility will
include a building structure and a thickener tank structure. The'
proposed building will be a steel frame superstructure about
seventy (70) by seventy (70) feet and about eighty (80) feet high.
1 -The building will be supported on reinforced concrete foundations.
. The thickener will be a concrete tank about sixty (60) feet in
diameter and ten (10) to twelve (12) feet high.
The Coal Processing Facility site will be constructed by a
excavation cut and fill material placement technique. The excava-
tion cut is proposed to have about a seventy (70) feet high cut
exposure and constructed at an inclination of one and one-half
(1 1~) to one (1) (horizontal to vertical}, The placed fill will be
constructed at an inclination of two (2) to one (1) and will be
about twenty (20) feet high.
The proposed site development will include a material storage
area and haul road which will be constructed from excess excavated
material from the proposed Coal Processing Facility site. The
material storage area and haul road fill will be constructed at an
inclination of two (2) to one (1) and will be about thirty-five
(35) feet high.
1.2 Scope of Services
Our services included geotechnical engineering field and labora-
tory studies, analysis of the acquired data and report preparation
for the proposed site. The scope of our services is outlined
below.
•
Lambert ana ~,~,oociate,~
CUNtiUU INU UEU fECN NICAI ENUINEEN6 AND
MATERIAL tES TINU
