r~
L
r 1
LJ
UNIT TRAIN LOADOUT (UTL)
Drainage within the rail loop of the UTL is routed to Pond 1+ 2. Sediment Ponds
Nos. 1 and 2 consist of two depressions excavated during construction of the
UTL(See Exhibit 11 B). Design capacity calculations are given in Appendix 13-2.
Excavation in an adjacent borrow area has increased the capacity of Pond 1
beyond the original design. These ponds were installed with a single closed
CMP emergency spillway for each pond with pumping for primary dewatering.
Redesign in 1995 combined the two ponds with a v-ditch and increased the
capacity of the combined Pond 1+2 to contain a 25 year, 24 hour runoff event.
Primary dewatering will be done with a pump. The two existing CMP's will serve
as emergency spillways. Another structure within the loop is the Sewage Lagoon
system that contains an aeration cell and 3 evaporation cells.
A portion of the area outside the rail loop is covered by alternate sediment
control. Dust blown off the loading operation accumulates in an area
immediately north of the rail loop. A berm has been installed around the area
which collects the majority of the dust. See Table 13-5 and Appendix 13-3 for
design information.
RAILROAD SPUR AND OVERLAND CONVEYOR
Sediment control for the Railroad Spur and Overland Conveyor (See Exhibit
10B) is achieved by maintaining a berm along Coal Creek and the Colorado
River to contain runoff from this area. Across-section of the berm is shown in
Exhibit 21. Sediment control for portions of the Overland Conveyor was
achieved by placing a rock fill as shown on Exhibit 76. The rock fill will serve to
protect the river bank from erosion during periods of high flow and also from
runoff from local precipitation events. The rock fill will also serve as a filter for
any water that backs up in the depression along the overland conveyor. The
• 13-9 (Rev. 12/02)
