Water Resources -
The pit site is located in the Sandy Creek. This is nornelly a dry creek,
flowing only in periods of heavy run-off. The creek channel can vary in width
from 50 feet up to 150 feet but averages 100' in width. During periods of heavy
rainfall, the flow will enter and sweep the pit area, often depositing more
gravel. Because the sand and gravel at the bottom of the creek allows rapid
percolation, water will not stand rrore than a few days at the most. The
excavation will be such that ground water elevations will not be encountered.
No existing water rights will be injured.
EXRIBIT D -Reclamation Plan
The pit area lies within the banks of the normally dry Sandy Creek. The
creek area only has a vegetative cover in dry periods. Flood waters destroy such
vegetation periodically. No topsoil will be put in the creekbed since it would
only be washed downstream during the next heavy rainfall. Therefore, no
vegetation will be re-established after the gravel is mined. If any of the creek
banks do inadvertently get disturbed, said banks will be backsloped from the
bottom of the creek to the bank edge at a slope no steeper than 3:1.
Portions of the existing creek banks are currently grassed. They range in
steepness fr~n straight up and down to 2:1 slopes.
If any of the banks are disturbed, they will be re-seeded. The Haxtun Soil
Conservation Service has been contacted for recommendations for top soil
placement, cover mulch, and seeding requirements. Their recommendation will be
sent as soon as possible to be included in our plan.
