Wetland Delineation Report for Gravel LLC Property <br />Proposed Gravel Mining Operations <br />].0 INTRODIICTTON <br />Prymorys Environmental Consulting, LLC. consultant 1. Peter ]ensen was sent by Gravel LLC to assess a <br />property and properties affected by the proposed gravel mining operation. Field investigations were <br />performed on the 18`"and 22cd of August, 2005. <br />L1 OBJECTIVES <br />L To determine any Waters of the United States subject to impacts from the proposed construction <br />activity. <br />2. To delineate identified Waters of the United States for planning the proposed activity. <br />3. To interpret the measurable impacts. <br />7.2 LOCATION <br />The property is located on private lands in La Plata County, Colorado; along the Florida River below the La <br />Plata County Airport. Township and range coordinates aze; Sec.3Q T.34N. R.8W. N.M.P.M (Appendix <br />A; Figure 1). The total area surveyed is restricted to the acquired property for gravel mining, as well as a <br />those properties crossed by easements associated with the project (e.g, access easement). <br />2.0 AREA DESCRIPTION <br />The project site is located on the Florida River valley below the Florida Mesa to the west. The area covets <br />the entire river valley as well as the pinion juniper terrace slopes bordering the property to the east and <br />west. This property is characterized by irrigated fields a[ the base of the river tertaces and riverine habitats <br />along the Florida River corridor. One large man-made pond with no inlet or outlet is located in the north- <br />west corner of the property (Photo 1) and the surrounding areas, including the irrigated fields are heavily <br />grazed by cattle, horses, as well as commercial elk <br />Relief within the Florida River cortidor ranges from 1- <br />4%alortg the open parts of the valley and can be as <br />great as 30% along the east and west terraces. <br />Relatively flat to mildly rolling pasture and farmland is <br />common on the tops of the terraces to the east and west <br />of the property. These azeas are typically heavily <br />irrigated. <br />2.7 GEOLOGY <br />" " ' ''`~ The location sits on the northern extent of the San Juan <br />~ ~ ~ ~ -~++=~; ° ~' structural basin south of the Fmitland Coal outcrop. <br />Photo r: nw Property P°oa The Florida River valley through this area is <br />surrounded by remnant quaternary alluvial river terraces from the Pleistocene and more recent glacial <br />advances from the mountainous region in the northem part of the County. The shales and sandstones of the <br />Nacimineto formation are typical mid slope and above the western retrace ridge with gravels and alluviums <br />of the pre-Bull Lake age intermittent within these areas. The river valley and the eastern terrace present the <br />pre-Bull Lake age alluviums throughout their extent. <br />2.2 VEGETAT/ON <br />Vegetation is variable within the alluvial valley depending on the influences from human manipulation and <br />elevation.
