In conformance with Rule 6.3.4(1)(c), please provide the details of the
reclamation seed mixture to be used during reclamation, i.e. species & application
rate(s), type of seeding, time of seeding, and any seedbed preparation treatments
to be used. Please respond.
Response: The details of the reclamation seed mixture and plan can be found on page 7
under Revegetation Plan. Language has been inserted to describe the
application rate, type of seeding, and seedbed prepazation as requested. This
information can also be found on page 7 under Revegetation Plan.
6. The applicant specifies that a goal of reclamation is to achieve shrub re-vegetation
and restoration of the affected land to be pre-mining land use, i.e. wildlife habitat.
Please specify the density or number of live stems per acre of woody vegetation
expected during final reclamation to achieve this goal. Also, please provide an
estimate of the density of shrubs in nearby undisturbed lands. Please respond.
Response: The pre-mine land use of the Neilson Pit was a rock outcrop. Colowyo
specifies on page 6 that the Neilson Pit will be regraded to create a stable
slope which will encourage wildlife habitat. The land use goal for the
Neilson Pit will be the same as pre-mining. Colowyo hopes that creating a
stable slope instead of a rock out crop will give wildlife additional habitat,
but the primary focus of the post mining land use is that of a stable rock slope
which is similar to the pre-mining land use.
Since the azea excavated was a scoria rock outcrop which is dissimilar to the
immediately surrounding azea, it is more appropriate to compaze success in
this azea to other local scoria outcrops. Observations of these locations
suggest relatively low density of vegetated material in general. Of the
vegetation in place shrubs and grasses appear to be evenly mixed. A goal of
50 stems per acre will be expected during final reclamation. Language
reflecting this final reclamation goal has been inserted onto page 7 under the
Revegetation Plan.
