131
-~ site: 5RT29 (Figs 1, 21).
Site Type: Open Comp.
vocation: SW;NE1<, Sec. 28, TSn, R86w; UTM Zone 13, E326,875m., N4,469,790m.
Description: 5RT29 is an open camp, defined on the basis of a very scant
scatter of flakes, ground stone fragments, and burnt rock in an area 15 by
1 30 m. Two features were defined. The first was a concentration of stained
earth with numerous charcoal flecks, and the second was a partially distur-
bed slab-lined hearth. The site is located at the base of a hill on a
north-facing slope, overlooking Foidel Creek 550 m. north. The nearest
water, however, is in a seasonal drainage 300 m. east, The site elevation
1 '
is 6950 ft. (2,1
8 m.). Vegetation on the site includes sagebrush, Gamble
s
oak, lupine, serviceberry, and local grasses. The site lies at the edge
of a plowed field and is also bisected by a fenceline a nd two-track jeep
~• trail. Roughly one-half the site lies in the field and has been subjected
to a great deal of disturbance. Surface collecting has undoubtedly oc-

curred, as area collectors know of the site. 5RT30 lies 500 m. to the
northwest,
Diagnostic artifacts: One metate fragment, Type IA.
Evaluation: 5RT29 has no potential for yielding information important to
prehistory and should not be nominated to the NRHP. No further action is
required.
.~
•
3
1
