120

• site: 5RT35 (Figs 1, 17).
site Type: Open architectural.
rycation: SWhNEI;, Sec. 7, Ton, R86w; UTM Zone 13, E323,250m., N4,466,690ni.
_ Description: 5RT35 is an historic site consisting of three structures
built of milled lumber, a well, and a trash dump. Assorted farm machinery
lies scattered about the site. The site area is located at the foot of
a long northeast-trending ridge, directly south of Pinnacle Peak. The
nearest water, other than the well on the site, is an unnamed drainage
50 m. east. The elevation of the site is 6950 ft. (2,118 m.). The local
vegetation includes sagebrush and local grasses. The site faces to the
north, but is exposed in all directions due to the gentle slope on which
it is located. Cultural material observed includes a stove, a plow, as-
sorted sheet metal, glass fragments, and a quantity of trash. The site
a •
covers an area 40 by 55 m. The structural remains consist of a dwelling,
barn, chicken coop, and a well. There is no visible disturbance other
than deterioration due to weathering and exposure. The architectural and
artifactual evidence indicate abandonment within the last 30 years.
Diagnostic artifacts: Columbine stove, model 8-16.
evaluation: Archival research by a trained historian is required before
5RT35 can be properly evaluated for nomination to the NRHP. We do feel
that the site does not meet the criteria for nomination to the NRHP on
architectural grounds.
•
