Section 780.18 (b) Continued. <br />Firefighting equipment will be available throughout the permit area where men and <br />equipment are working and where combustible materials are stored. The areas will be <br />posted with the proper roaming signs for the type of material stored. <br />Sealing of Exploration and Mute Holes <br />No abandoned or existing underground mines or their associated tunnek, shafu or other <br />openings now exist within the proposed permit area. The measures to be used to plug, <br />case or manage exploration holes, other boreholes, wells and other openings within the <br />proposed permit area will include: <br />• Sealing any water-producing interval(s) with a plug and either bentonite or cement <br />to a distance of 20 feet above and below the interval(s) <br />• Filling ren> ;ni*+g intervals with cuttings or other inert materials to within 10 f eet of <br />the ground surface <br />• Establishing a cement surface plug from the 10-foot depth to within 3 feet of the <br />• ground surface <br />• Placing a marker post in the cement surface plug <br />Those holes which remain open for use as water supply wells or for use as a ground water <br />monitoring wells will be completed with casing or piezometers at a sufficient height above <br />land surface to prevent drainage of surface water or entrance of other material into the <br />well, and will be fitted with caps to prevent the introduction of foreign objecu, other than <br />monitoring and sampling equipment, into the well When ground water monitoring wells <br />are no longer needed or required for any purpose, each well will be eliminated in <br />accordance with the methods described above. <br />Water and Air Qtality Control Techniques <br />Steps to be taken to comply with the Dean Water Act and other applicable water quality <br />laws and, regulations and health and safety standards include a comprehensive drainage and <br />sediment control plan described in Sections 780.21, 78025, and 816.41-816.57.
