Structure:

The subject lands fall on the northern limb of the Axial Basin
Anticline, which is a southeastward extension of the larger Uinta
Tiountain, arch. The Axial Basin Anticline is an unsymmetrical fold - j
that is, the dips on the south side of the axis are much steeper
than those on the north side. Faulting commonly accompanies
tectonic-orogenic movement such as has occurred in the surrounding i
area. Numerous faults are found throughout the region, but none
were found in the immediate vicinity of the proposed pit.
III. Minerals:
Leasable (oil and gas, coal):
Commercial quantities of gas and oil have been produced from the
Jurassic, Tiorrison, and the Cretaceous Dakota and Mancos Formations
els~.~here in the Axial Basin Anticline. All of these formations
are present under the subject land. The subject area is currently
under an oil and gas application (C'17704), but there is no other
evidence of interest in leasable minerals. There are no coal
leases and no mines or prospects in the vicinity.
Locatable (subject to the General Mining Law of 1872):
This writer ,found no record of mining locatable minerals in the
area. The geologic formations exposed are not noted for mineable ~
mineralization. There were no evidences of mining claim locations
and records indicate no locations.
