2. Salinity Parameters
Self-monitoring samples taken in compliance with the monitoring requires specked above shall be taken at those locatio-•• 1.
Part I.B.I. TDS shall be sampled on a monttily basis until six samples have been analyzed. A report of "No Discharge- st
be counted as one of the six samples. Thereafter, monitoring shall continue on a quarterlylmontlily basis. Following r =~
the initial six sets of monthly data, the Division shall determine whether the permittee is required to submit a report adder;
removal in accordance with the Colorado River Salinity Standards, Regulation No. (SCCR 1002-39). If the salmi-::e
required, the Division shall so advise the petmittee by letter or through the inclusion of a compliance schedule and the rro
be submitted within 180 days.
Where, based on a minimum of 5 samples, the pemtittee demonstrates to the satisfaction of the Division that the le:e; e
dissolved solids (TDS) in the efluent can be calculated based upon the level of electrical conductivity, the pertnittee mz n
and report TDS in terms of electrical conductivity.
C. DEFLYITIONS OF TEILVIS
1. "Acute Toxicity" means there shall be no acute toxicity in the effluent from this outfall. The acute toxicity limitation is exce
1) a statistically significant difference in mortality (at the 95% confidence level) is obsen ed for either species between ce
and any dilution less that or equal to the identified IWC or 2) a species mortality in any dilution of effluent (includ`.o
effluent) exceeds 50%.
2. "Composite" sample is a mutimum of four grab samples collected at equally spaced two hour intervals and proportioned ace
to flow.
3. "Continuous" measurement is a measurement obtained hom an automatic recording deg-ice which continually measures p,
measurements.
4. "Daily Pdaximum limitation' means the limitation for this parameter shall be applied as an instantaneous maximum (o:, fog
DO, instantaneous minimum) value. The instantaneous value is defined as the analyicai result of any individual sarmie.
shat] incl*,rde the maximum (and/or minimum) of all instantaneous values within the calendar month. Any instanta:eou:
beyond the noted daily maximum limitation for the indicated parameter shall be considered a violation of this pertnit.
5. "Dissolved (D) metals fraction" is defined in the Basic Standards and Methodoloeies for Surface Water 1002-3 i, as tF~: not
a water and suspended sediment sample which passed through a 0.40 or 0.45 LEI (micron) membrane filter Deter-+~~~t
"dissolved" constituents are made using the filtrate. This may include some very small (colloidal) suspended par@c!es,
passed through the membrane filter as well as the amount of substance present in true chemical solution.
6. "Grab" sample, is a single "dip and take" sample so as to be representative of the parameter being monitored.
7. "In-situ" measurement is defined as a single reading, observation or measurement taken in the field at the point of discharge.
8. "Instantaneous" measurement is a single reading, observation, or measurement performed on site using existine r..oc
facii es.
9. "Potentially dissolved (PD) metals fraction" is defined in the Basic Standards and Methodoloeies for Surface Water 100?
that portion of a constituent measured from the filtrate of a water and suspended sediment sample that was fast treated uit
acid to a pH of 2 or less and let stand for 8 [0 96 hours prior to sample filtration using a 0.40 or 0.45-UM (micron) me~~ran
Note the "potentially dissolved" method cannot be used where nitric acid wit! interfere with the analytical procedure ued
constituent measured.
10. "Quarterly measurement frequency" means samples may be collected at any time during il:e calendar quarter if a a
discharge occurs. If the discharge is itttermittent, then samples shall be collected during ti-re period that discharge occu.;.
11. "Recorder requires the continuous operation of a chart anaior totalizer (or drinking water rotor meters or pump hour 2-e:er:
previously approved.)
L J
