There are to few of these areas available as it is. We don't want to see another one gone. 4. We are also people xho enjo} watching wildlife. There are Golden Eagles, Bald Eagles, Owls and numerous hawks in this area. We have also watched many deer over the years. I am sorry to say that the deer population seems to be down since ve have become more populated. It would be a real shame if these birds and animals were to disappear from the area altogether. The distruction of their feeding and nesting areas could very well lead to this. 5. The pit area also has archaeologicai sites. Approximately 15 years ago some archaeologists had flown over this area and told us they had seem numerous sites from the air. While ridiny and picnicing in the area we have come across arrow heads and Anasazi pottery shards. We have been told that one site has already been damaged dve to the cutting of a service road. i. 6. We have been informed that the location of a gravel pit in such close proximity to our home would decrease it's value by as much as 50%. we have spent ZS years working on our home and surroundings to have a place like we want, which we have almost accompliced, and one we can be proud of. We have invested a considerable amount of time and money to do this. We do not want to have our investment devalued by someones industrial plans. I wonder how Mr. Stone would like to put his pit that close to his home. ~. At some time in the past someone tried to operate a gravel pit at this site. They were suppose to reclaim the site but did not. It is marred by pits still. I believe that this operation would result in the same thing happening again, adding to the spoiling of this area. We are located only two miles from the airport. The sight of this pit fzom the air to tourist and business people would have the a detriment to the overall view of Cortez and Montezuma County. We re.luest, pursuant to section 2.6.1 (1)(b) of the Construction Industry Rules and Regulations of the Mined Land Reclamation Hoard (the "Rules"), that 1 be notified of the date of the in- formal conference to be held concerning this Application so we ;. might participate in the informal conference. We also request, pursuant to Rule 1.4.6(2), that I be granted party status and that this comment letter be considered a "statement of issues" for liurposes of the informal conference.
