November 18, 1997

~ Ms. Levern Lemay
Minerals Program Assistant to the State of Colo.
Department of Natural Resources
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Herman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colo. 80203
RE: Comment on Application for a Construction Materials
Regular Operation (112) Reclamation Permit by Daren Stone,
sole Proprietor of an enterprise called Stone Gravel Pit.
Proposed pit is located on 158.16 acres located on or near
Sections 12 & 13, Tier 35 North, Range 17 west, Neu Mexico
(10th) Principal Meridian.
Dear Ms. Lemay:
This comment letter is submitted by Mr. and Mrs. Buck Morris.
Our home is located approximately .3 miles east of the Stone
Gravel Pit. We object to this application for the reasons
set forth below.
~. 1. We feel the pit and the trucks that will be hauling the
material will cause a worse health problem to our household.
I, Betty Morris, have asthma and my elderly mother who lives
with us also has asthma, sevete allergies and alzhiemers
disease. I~have enclosed a section of the Revised Particulate
Matter Standards stateing the effects of dust on these
diseases. The dust is already a large problem in this area
without the addition of trucks hauling these materials con-
stantly. We also object to the use of chemicals to retard
dust as they are highly corrosive to vehicles.
2. We believe it will also result in a hazard to the local
children who must ride the school buses. Our grandchildren
are getting off the bus at our home, located at the inter-
section of County Rd. F and 21. They catch the bus on Rd.
21 approximately ~ mile from this intersection. These two
county roads are narrow and we fear this could result in an
accident, especially in the winter, or perhaps a child being
hit by a truck.
3. The land surrounding the pit has always been rangeland,
agricultural or residential. we do not want it to become an
i industrial or mining area. We moved here over 25 years ago
for the peace, quiet and solitude. we and many others have
used this proposed p1t area for recreation for at least 25
years that we know of. People enjoy horseback riding, ATV
