• EXHIBIT D
MINING PLAN
The Lehr Pit is located in the Northwest corner of Weld County. Presently
there is a large gravel pit on the East end of the site. The State
Highway Department made major use of this pit during the construction of
U.S, Highway No. 85. The pit has previously been known as the Tucker Pit
or tl~e Thomas Pit, It has been used by other contractors since. Weld
County leas used this old pit for the past three (3) years to obtain sand
and gravel to use on County roads in the area in their gravelling and
maintenance program. The gravel from this location is suitable for crush-
ing and therefore, one of the better sources of material in this area.
The County plans to extend this existing pit to the West and have obtained
a 10-Year lease for the material from the Lehr Pit.
Operation of the pit will be intermittant. The County, as budgeted or as
a specific need arises, will move equipment to the site; the material will
• be processed and hauled to the jobsite, Normally, all material excavated
and processed will be removed from the site and no major stockpiles will
remain. Operating equipment will consist of dozers, loaders, trucks and
a portable crusher.
The County plans to continue the mining as it has been done previously, i.e „
moving into the Easterly face of the site, across its North-South width.
Existing topsoil will be removed from the area to be mined and placed on
the previously exposed and finished pit area. Any excess topsoil will be
stockpiled for the final reclamation process. The mining and processing
will then take place. As each block of mining is completed, the pit edges
will be finished to a 4;1 slope. The operation will be completely "dry" as
there is no surface or ground water on the site.
The soil inventory included in the report is taken from the Soil Conservation
Service Soil Survey, Weld County, Colorado (Northern Part), wherein general
classes of soil are located and classified. Descriptions are generalizations
of the type of material at the site and are not specific soils evaluations.
. In the case of the Lehr Pit, the available growth medium is very minimal.
The Reclamation section~of the report states that the existing fines on the
11 EXHIBIT D
